Staff Sgt. Vincenzo Romeo of Lodi, N.J., was a veteran of the 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division's first Iraq deployment in 2003-04. Staff Sgt. Romeo was born July 11, 1983, in Calabria, Italy; and immigrated with his family to the United States in 1986. A 2001 graduate of Lodi High School in New Jersery, he then attended Kean University for one year and enlisted in the Army in March 2003. He is survived by his mother, Saverina; his father, Antonio; his two brothers, Bruno and Carmelo; his Fiancee Amanda Anderson of Tacoma, WA; and his beloved extended family. Assigned to the 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Wash.; died May 6 2007 in Baqubah, Iraq, of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations. Also killed were Sgt. Jason R. Harkins, Sgt. Joel W. Lewis, Cpl. Matthew L. Alexander, Cpl. Anthony M. Bradshaw and Cpl. Michael A. Pursel.
